Gauhati University B.Ed Admission 2026

The B.Ed. program is offered by Gauhati University. Each year, students applying to the two-year Bachelor of Education program take the Common Entrance Test (GUBEDCET). The GUBEDCET 2026 schedule has been released. Online applications are open from 12 June 2026 to 24 June 2026, and the entrance test will be held on 19 July 2026. The merit list will be released on July 28, 2026, and the admit card can be downloaded starting on July 8.

Gauhati University’s two-year Bachelor of Education program covers both theoretical and practical aspects of teacher education. There is no direct admission to the affiliated B.Ed. colleges; all admissions are made through GUBEDCET. Candidates who qualify the entrance exam are ranked in a merit list, and seat allocation is based on that rank.

GU B.Ed Admission & Evaluation Structure

  • Program Profile: A comprehensive 2-year Bachelor of Education degree focusing on theoretical paradigms and practical field experience in teacher education.
  • Question Layout: The assessment consists of 100 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying four choices each, framed strictly in the English language.
  • Time Allotted: Candidates are allowed a total duration of 120 minutes (2 hours) to complete the exam.
  • Maximum Marks: The evaluation aggregates to a maximum scale of 400 marks.
  • Marking Scheme Rules: Candidates receive +4 marks for every accurate response, while a penalty deduction of -1 mark applies for each incorrect choice. Unattempted questions incur no scoring penalty.
  • Qualifying Cut-off Thresholds: A minimum baseline of 80 marks is mandatory for Unreserved category applicants, whereas a threshold of 60 marks applies to all reserved category candidates.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Background: Applicants must hold a BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom, or an equivalent academic degree obtained from a recognized educational Board or University.

Minimum Marks: General and EWS category applicants must possess a minimum score of 50% marks in their qualifying degree. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, and PWD categories require an absolute minimum of 45% marks.

Final Year Status: Students currently pursuing their final semester or year are fully eligible to apply. However, their physical enrollment remains subject to verifying fulfillment of all standard percentage guidelines during institutional documentation rounds.

GUBEDCET Syllabus & Sectional Weights

The entrance evaluation covers five distinct sections, formatted as follows:

Section Syllabus Topics & Content Coverage Marks Allotted
Section A General English (Vocabulary, Tense, Voice, Narration, Prepositions, Sentence Correction & Comprehension) 100 Marks
Section B General Knowledge (Indian History, Indian Polity, General Science, Current Affairs) 120 Marks
Section C Test of Reasoning and Numerical Ability 80 Marks
Section D Current Indian Education (Issues & Policies), National Policy of Education (NEP 2020), Right to Education (RTE), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) 60 Marks
Section E Ethics and Teaching Aptitude 40 Marks
Total Marks 400 Marks

Tie-Breaking Protocol

When multiple applicants score the same on the GUBEDCET, the following sequential check rules are used to determine their relative placement on the merit rank sheet:

  1. Positive to Negative Marks Ratio: The candidate exhibiting a higher absolute numerical value in this ratio receives the superior merit rank.
  2. Unanswered Count: If the tie remains unresolved, the candidate with fewer unanswered questions is given the better position.
  3. Age Seniority: If a tie still persists after the previous steps, the older candidate is placed higher on the roster.

Assam’s designated regional exam hubs will be used to organize the OMR-based written exam:
