Assam NMMS Exam 2026 – Apply Online for 2,411 Scholarships
The Directorate of Secondary Education (DSE), Assam has invited online applications for the National Means Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMSE) 2026. The examination is conducted as a screening test for students studying in Class VIII during the 2026-27 academic session. A total of 2,411 scholarships are allocated for Assam under this centrally sponsored scheme. Eligible students can submit their online application forms starting from 12 August 2026 up to 8 November 2026.

Assam NMMS Exam 2026 Notification
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to arrest dropouts at Class VIII and encourage them to continue secondary education.
The screening test for the academic session 2026-27 will be conducted on 28 November 2026 across 169 designated examination centres throughout Assam. Selected candidates will receive ₹12,000/- per annum via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) from Class IX through Class XII, subject to fulfilling renewal criteria.
Eligibility Criteria for Assam NMMS 2026
1. Academic Qualification & School Type:
- The student must be currently enrolled and studying in Class VIII during the academic session 2026-27.
- Only students studying in Government and Provincialised schools under the Department of School Education, Government of Assam are eligible to be considered for scholarship selection.
- Students from Private schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV), and Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) may appear in the screening exam but will not be considered for the scholarship award.
2. Minimum Qualifying Marks in Class VII:
- General / OBC Category: Must have secured at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class VII annual examination.
- SC / ST Category: 5% relaxation is provided; a minimum of 50% marks in Class VII is required.
3. Parental Income Limit:
- The total annual income of the student’s parents from all sources must not exceed ₹3,50,000/- (₹3.50 Lakh) per annum.
Assam NMMS Examination Pattern
The examination consists of two papers containing objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs) administered on OMR sheets:

School-Based Examination Fee Exemption:
- Every Government and Provincialised school must enrol at least the top 3 eligible students whose parental annual income does not exceed ₹3.50 lakh.
- The Directorate will exempt the examination fee for the top 3 eligible students of each school based on their Class VII marks/percentage.
- For schools in Sixth Schedule Areas and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the fee exemption will cover the top 5 eligible students from each school.
- The Head of the Institution must submit the nominated list to the Inspector of Schools (IS) on or before 27 October 2026.
Note: If a student pays the examination fee online before selection for exemption, no fee refund will be issued.
Required Documents to Apply Online
Candidates must keep scanned copies of the following documents ready before starting the online application:
- National Scholarship Portal (NSP) OTR Details and Aadhaar Number.
- Active Mobile Number and Email ID.
- Recent Passport-Size Photograph (JPG/JPEG format, size below 35 KB).
- Full Signature of the Student (JPG/JPEG format, size below 30 KB).
- Caste Certificate for OBC / SC / ST candidates (JPG/JPEG format, size below 100 KB).
- Disability Certificate for Differently Abled candidates (JPG/JPEG format, size below 100 KB).
- School UDISE Code of the current Government/Provincialised school.
How to Apply for Assam NMMS Exam 2026?
Eligible students can complete the online application process by following the step-by-step instructions below:
- First, complete the mandatory One-Time Registration (OTR) on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
- Access the Assam NMMS Online Application Portal link provided below.
- Select the respective District and preferred Examination Centre.
- Enter the student’s personal details, Aadhaar number, and parents’ annual income details.
- Enter the correct UDISE Code of the Government or Provincialised school where currently studying in Class VIII.
- Upload the scanned photograph, signature, and relevant caste/disability certificates in the prescribed dimensions.
- Carefully verify all details before submitting, as details cannot be edited post-submission.
- Log in using the Application ID and Password to pay the examination fee online (unless exempted through the school nomination list).
- Download and print out the application acknowledgement receipt for future reference.
