UPSC CSE Prelims Result 2026

The Union Public Service Commission announced the Civil Services Prelims 2026 result on 15 June 2026. The preliminary exam took place on 24 May 2026. A total of 13,343 candidates have been selected to appear for the Civil Services Mains Exam 2026. The result is available on the official UPSC website as a PDF containing the roll numbers of all qualified candidates.

This year, there are 1,016 vacancies for the Civil Services Exam 2026. Last year, 14,161 candidates were shortlisted for the Mains against 1,087 vacancies. This year, the number of selected candidates and vacancies is slightly lower. Qualified candidates must complete some required formalities within a limited time before they can appear for the Mains.

Note: The selection of all shortlisted candidates is temporary. The marks, cut-off scores, and answer keys for the Preliminary Exam will be released only after the entire Civil Services Exam 2026 and Indian Forest Service Exam 2026 process is complete, that is, after the final result is declared.

About the Civil Services Examination

The Civil Services Examination is held every year by UPSC in three stages — Preliminary, Main, and Interview. Through this exam, officers are recruited for services like the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and several other Central Services. The Preliminary Exam acts as a screening test. Only candidates who pass this stage can appear for the Mains.

Post-Result Mandatory Actions for Qualified Candidates

All selected candidates must complete the following steps on the UPSC Online website between 19 June 2026 and 28 June 2026. If they fail to submit the application form within this time, they will not be allowed to appear in the next stages. The e-Admit Card for the Mains will not be issued without this submission.

Fee Payment: Candidates who are not Female, PwBD, SC, or ST must pay ₹200 as the Mains application fee. Female, PwBD, SC, and ST candidates do not need to pay any fee.

Scribe and Assistive Device Details: Candidates who need a scribe, assistive device, or question paper in large print for the Mains must submit or update these details during this time.

Cadre Preference: Candidates must fill in their cadre preference for the Civil Services Mains Exam 2026 during this window.

Even candidates who have already uploaded their documents earlier and have nothing new to add must still log in and submit the form to confirm their details. Without this final submission, the e-Admit Card will not be generated.

  2. Then, click on “Written Result: Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026” to open or download the PDF.
  3. Once the PDF opens, press Ctrl+F on Windows or Cmd+F on Mac to open the search option.
  4. Type your roll number in the search box to check if you are in the list.
  5. If you have qualified, log in to upsconline.nic.in between 19 June 2026 and 28 June 2026 to complete the Mains application process.
