The Department of Posts (India Post), Ministry of Communications, Government of India has officially released the recruitment notification (Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS) under the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026. A total of 23,757 tentative vacancies have been announced across postal circles nationwide for the positions of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak. Assam Circle alone accounts for 414 vacancies. Candidates who have passed Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) with Mathematics and English can apply online up to 21 September 2026 (5:00 PM).

Salary Structure (TRCA Slabs)
Gramin Dak Sevaks receive Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) along with Dearness Allowance (DA) and an annual increase of 3% subject to applicable norms:

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill the educational qualifications, local language criteria, and age limits as on 21 September 2026:
- Educational Qualification: Secondary School Examination (Class 10) pass certificate from a recognized Board of School Education with passing marks in Mathematics and English.
- Compulsory Local Language: The applicant must have studied the prescribed local language of the postal circle/division at least up to Class 10 as a compulsory or elective subject.
- For Assam Circle: Assamese (for general areas), Bengali (for Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi districts of Barak Valley), and Bodo (for BTC areas).
- Other Requirements: Knowledge of operating computers, knowledge of cycling, and possession of adequate alternative means of livelihood.
- Accommodation Mandate:
- BPM: Must arrange suitable accommodation for the Branch Post Office at own cost and reside in the post village.
- ABPM / Dak Sevak: Must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.
- Age Limit (as on 21.09.2026):
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 40 years
- Upper age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD (13 years for PwBD+OBC, 15 years for PwBD+SC/ST). No relaxation for EWS category.

Selection Process
- System-Generated Merit List: Shortlisting is conducted automatically purely based on Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) aggregate marks or grades converted to percentage (accurate up to 4 decimal places). No written examination or viva-voce is conducted.
- Physical Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be notified via SMS/email and must report to the respective Divisional/Unit Head within 15 days of result declaration with all original certificates and two sets of self-attested photocopies.
- Pre-engagement Formalities: After successful verification, candidates must complete 3 days of prescribed basic training and accommodation requirements within 30 days of the offer of provisional engagement.

Eligible candidates must apply online through the official portal by completing the registration and application stages:
- Visit the official GDS portal at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
- Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) by entering your active mobile number and email ID, followed by OTP verification.
- Enter personal details, date of birth, category, and Class 10 certificate details exactly as recorded in your matriculation mark sheet.
- Note your Registration Number and Password received on your mobile and email.
- Log in and select the active cycle: GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026.
- Select your applying Circle and Division, and submit post preferences based on available vacancies.
- Upload scanned files as per specifications:
- Recent passport-size photograph (JPG/JPEG format, 30 KB to 100 KB)
- Signature in black ink (JPG/JPEG format, 20 KB to 100 KB)
- Preview the application, verify all information, and proceed to the payment gateway (if applicable) to pay ₹100 online.
