The High Court of Manipur, Imphal has released an official recruitment advertisement (No. HCMEST-12011/2/2026-ESTT-II SECTION-HCM/16947) for direct recruitment to the post of Manipur Judicial Service Grade – I. The conditions of service will be governed under the Manipur Judicial Service Rules, 2005 as amended from time to time. Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification & Experience:

  • Must be a holder of a Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized University.
  • For Advocates: Must be actively practicing as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and Criminal jurisdiction on the last date fixed for receipt of applications, and must have practiced for not less than 7 (seven) years continuously as on that date. (Advocate includes Government Pleaders and Public Prosecutors).
  • For In-Service Judicial Officers: The officer must have completed continuous 7 years or more at the Bar before entering Judicial Service, or continuous 7 years or more as a Judicial Officer, or a combined experience of 7 years or more as an Advocate and Judicial Officer as on the closing date.
  • Must possess sufficient working knowledge of the State Official Language (Manipuri).
  • Must upload the Certificate of Practice / Experience in the prescribed proforma.

2. Age Limit (As on 22.09.2026):

  • Candidate must be not below 35 years of age.
  • Upper Age Limit:
    • General / Unreserved Candidates: Maximum 45 years
    • OBC Candidates: Maximum 48 years
    • SC & ST Candidates: Maximum 50 years

Selection Process & Examination Pattern

The selection process comprises a Written Examination followed by a Viva-Voce / Personal Interview:

1. Written Examination (300 Marks | 3 Papers of 3 Hours Each):

Paper – II Problems of Law regarding Transfer of Property Act, Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), Specific Relief Act, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Indian Evidence Act, Indian Penal Code (IPC), Limitation Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. 100 3 Hours
Paper – III Judgment Writing (Paper Book supplied), Legal Theories on Jurisprudence, and Provisions of the Constitution of India. 100 3 Hours
Total 300 9 Hours

* Qualifying Criterion: Candidates securing 50% or more marks in the written examination are eligible for Viva-Voce. Shortlisting for Viva-Voce is done up to 3 times the number of vacancies.

2. Viva-Voce / Interview (50 Marks):

  • Knowledge of Manipur State Official Language (Manipuri) will be tested during the interview.
  • Candidates must secure a minimum of 40% marks in the Viva-Voce to be eligible for inclusion in the final select list.
